Social lending is social service credit designed to prevent economic exclusion and over-indebtedness and to help an individual or a family to manage independently. The credit is intended for people on a low income and scant financial means living in the municipality who have no access to other reasonably priced credit due to, for example, the lack of collateral and a payment default entry in their credit data file.
Social lending is based on legislation but it is voluntary for municipalities. Only some municipalities in Finland provide social credit, so check with your own municipality. The municipality determines the criteria for the granting of social lending.
