Civil marriage ceremony

The Chief Judge, a District Judge, a Junior District Judge or a Trainee District Judge may perform a civil marriage ceremony at a district court. At the local register offices, the Head of the Office, a District Registrar or a Notary may perform the ceremony.

At least seven days before the ceremony, the prospective spouses must obtain a certificate from the local register office stating that there are no impediments to the marriage.

The marriage ceremony may, upon agreement, be performed also outside office hours and outside the office.

Performance of a marriage ceremony during the normal office hours at the office is free of charge. If the ceremony takes place outside the office, the charge is EUR 150 during office hours and EUR 250 outside office hours. In addition, the spouses are charged for the travel expenses of the officiator or registrar.
