Financial and debt counselling

You don't have to struggle with money problems alone. Financial and debt counselling services can give you the support and assistance you need in questions about your personal finances.

Financial and debt counsellors will help you if you are worried about your finances. They will advise you on all kinds of everyday financial issues, such as how to plan your spending and stay on budget. You can contact the financial and debt counselling services even if you are not in debt or only have a small amount of debt. If you are worried about your finances or those of a family member or friend, it is a good idea to ask for advice right away.

Financial and debt counsellors can also provide assistance in managing your debts. Financial and debt counsellors can help you with things like:

  • sorting out your financial situation
  • comparing the different solutions available
  • drawing up payment agreements.

They can also assist you in applying for a restructuring loan or debt adjustment.

Financial and debt counselling services are provided by state legal aid offices free of charge. Counselling is provided by financial and debt advisers and the legal aid secretaries who assist them. The counselling is confidential and the personnel are bound by the non-disclosure obligation.

Legal aid offices are part of the public legal aid and guardianship districts. Read more about the organisation.

Financial and debt counselling services are governed by the Act on Financial and Debt Counselling (813/2017).
